Watch: Maps & Atlases ft. Good Old War - "Israeli Caves" live

Maps & Atlases' music is so technical, so precise, so delightfully engineered to make you love it that it's hard to imagine how they could possibly improve upon any of their tunes. Turns out, at least in this case, the answer is harmonies. In an acoustic session for Terror Eyes TV, Dave Davison enlists the aid of former label mates and friends Good Old War to put a new spin on "Israeli Caves" from Maps & Atlases 2010 debut Perch Patchwork. The result - pure and utterly gorgeousness. The boys of Good Old War are essentially made out of harmonies so hearing that along with Davison's folksy refrains is utter perfection. Maps & Atlases have a knack for picking cool and interesting people to cover their songs with them and this time is no different. Check out Dave Davison and Good Old War tackle "Israeli Caves":

As long as they those beautiful three-part harmonies and Tim Arnold's general badassery, Philadelphia folk pop trio Good Old War could read the phonebook and I'd be a fan. Thankfully on their new record, Come Back As Rain, they do none of that. Owing to the record's inspiration of being on the road and homesickness, the video for their latest single "Calling Me Names", follow the men of Good Old War driving around having a good old time in sepia color. It's a kind of cute video for a kind of cute song and one more chance for you to hear Tim Arnold nail those high harmonies before the record comes out.

Philadelphia folk pop trio Good Old War have a new album coming out. Despite reading tweets declaring such a couple months ago, I kind of completely forgot about this. The new album titled Come Back As Rain and inspired by the band's feelings of homesickness while constantly away from home will be out March 6th. Yesterday the band played a live studio show via Livestream where they answered questions and played some new tunes. One of which was their most recent single "Calling Me Names" which they premiered over at Paste Magazine. The new track contains the same delightful catchiness the group is known for in the songs and tight three part harmonies with one notable exception: That high pitched voice you hear? That's not an addition, that's drummer/accordionist/all around chill guy Tim Arnold. Guys have somehow gotten even better at singing. Go figure.

It's hard to believe that somewhere during all their whirlwind touring, folk-pop troubadours Good Old War had the time to do anything, much less film a music video. But in a case of shooting two birds with one stone, the trio released the video for "That's Some Dream". Directed by Andy Patch, the video follows the band around on tour showing some live show performances and everything in between. Watch the delightfully charming video:

Good Old War Ustream show on 5/19

Lots of Good Old War love today. The indie folk pop trio from Philly have their sophomore album coming out on June 1st and in support of that the band has been doing little live concerts on Ustream. The first of which happened on May 10th and can be viewed here:

Good Old War to release sophomore album

So I talked about the folk trio Good Old War and their debut album The Only Way to Be Alone not too long ago, well the trio's back with an upcoming self-titled sophomore release. Just yesterday the band made the album available for preorder in a variety of formats either CD, 12" vinyl, or in bundles where you get a shirt, eight buttons, and a poster in addition to either the vinyl or cd. Good Old War - Only Way To Be Alone (2008)

It's no secret that I'm a sucker for artful, melody-driven folk and Good Old War delivers that with their debut album Only Way To Be Alone. The trio fits together almost perfectly, aptly showcasing Keith Goodwin's vocals that seem to practically burst with a raw honesty and sentimentally. The band achieves a level of combined musicianship that often takes tons of years to master and their three-part vocal harmonies are downright heavenly. Even when outside collaborators Anthony Green, Dave Davison, and Unlikely Cowboy's Alison Wadsworth are featured on tracks "Weak Man" and "Stay By My Side" you can hardly tell they're not members of the band. From the opening strains of "Coney Island" to the harmony-laden "Stay By My Side" the album is pure folksy goodness guaranteed to please.
