She & Him release video for "Don't Look Back"

She & Him continue their disarmingly cute domination of music as we know it, this time with the release of a video for "Don't Look Back" off last year's Volume Two. The video is pretty much made of awesome, featuring Zooey Deschannel lounging around her futuristic and yet retro-styled apartment, M. Ward inflating a guitar and then playing it, a robot playing the piano, some Zooey clones, and a M. Ward hologram. Enjoy the video for "Don't Look Back":

She & Him visit Conan

Last night, cutesy 60s inspired indie-pop duo She & Him performed on Conan and their performance of "I Put A Spell On You" had to be seen to be believed. Stripped down to just Zooey Deschanel on vocals and M. Ward's spacey guitar riffs, the duo proved they're more than just Deschanel's come hither winks with some fancy guitar work. Instead viewers were treated to the most animated performance I've seen the duo give. Gone were the controlled purely melodic vocals the band is known for, replaced with hypnotizing banshee shrieks amid spooky silences and reverb. That might sound bad, but it's not. It's actually amazing. Watch the video:

Watch: She & Him - "Thieves"

She & Him, continuing with their momentum from their latest album release in March and constant touring and festival appearances, are releasing their second single from Volume Two, "Thieves". The video for "Thieves" unlike the vibrant colors for "In the Sun" is in black and white but still features Zooey Deschanel being overal adorable, and even throws in some adorable kids for good measure. In the video, Zooey pines for her childhood friend (played by M. Ward) who being some sort of ne'erdowell has gone missing. The two possess the uncanny ability to send messages to each other through time (Young Zooey send Old M. Ward a letter asking where he is, and Young M. Ward send Old Zooey a map to his location). It's a pretty interesting and has numerous references to the album itself in it.
Enjoy!

Now Streaming: She & Him - Volume Two

Indie pop duo She & Him is composed of rocker M. Ward and actress Zooey Deschanel. Together with Deschanel acting as chief songwriter and Ward as more of a producer/arranger the duo presents sugary sweet pop reminscient of the 60s. The band's debut release Volume One was well received and now the duo is back with Volume Two. Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, it doesn't really change the group's sound too much or mark any changes in direction but rather offers up more of what was delivered in the first release only with much more of a focus on being breezy and whistful.

The album is available on NPR's First Listen where you can either stream the album in its entirety or listen to individual tracks here:
